Hypatian Institute College Fellows Program

hypatian-college-fellowship.jpg

What does the year hold for you? Between school, your job and life responsibilities, how will you achieve your goals beyond the classroom. Everyone is born to lead. But the transition to college can be difficult requiring students to not only enter a new environment, but an entirely unknown world. During the semester-long College Fellowship, the Hypatian Institute, Inc. helps first and second year students build competitive advantage by showing you how to leverage the knowledge you’re gaining at school to pursue your short-and long-term objectives.

Surviving freshman year is an important success, but no guarantee that other factors won't create barriers. To prepare talented young people for the academic and life challenges that come in the first years of college, the College Fellows program enhances problem-solving skills and helps students develop the confidence, resiliency, and resourcefulness to overcome the difficulties they encounter to find personal and academic success.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

What does the year hold for you? Between school, your job and life responsibilities, how will you achieve your goals beyond the classroom. Everyone is born to lead. During the semester-long College Fellowship, the Hypatian Institute, Inc.

The Fellowship provides an invaluable opportunity to build your potential, develop an asset-based professional brand, and gain the tools to construct and leverage a high-value network. Hypatian Institute College Fellows receive coaching, mentoring and resources valued at $3,500, plus financial support through the Fellows Fund.

The College Fellowship creates an environment that fosters learning and self-determination, and enhances skills through a curriculum focused on problem-solving, critical thinking and self-reflection. Participants are introduced to community and business leaders, programs, and topical discussions that complement their academic and life goals.

We seek high potential first and second year students with a level of academic success that may not reflect their potential. Students may self-identify for the program, or faculty, staff and community members may nominate them for the program. Participation is free, but Fellows must commit to attending monthly meetings, attending monthly coaching sessions, and engaging in a mentoring relationship.

“I was hoping for guidance, definitely support. . . . [The Fellowship] has made my vision of my future expand more. . . . It’s an amazing opportunity, an amazing experience.”
— Adriana Usmayo, ‘16, Transferred from NVCC to UVA, Major: Economics, Career Goal: Attorney
